HEALTH AND DENTAL INSURANCE...
Does your employer offer health and dental insurance? If not, how do you provide it for your family? Have you purchased an individual policy? If so, which company did you choose and have you been happy with the coverage?

My husband and I were always covered for health insurance under my work policy. When I left work in the fall to take care of the baby, we were kinda up a creek. (His work policy is REALLY CRAPPY and has no providers in this part of the country. When we called area providers to see if they'd join the plan, they refused. Yikes!)
Soooo, we went shopping for an individual policy. We ended up buying one from Assurant Health. While it's not as good as my former policies through various jobs, it covers what we need it to cover. And, yeah, it is expensive. We're lucky to be able to afford it.
We have ours thru my job with the State.
For some reason everyone that DOES NOT work for the state seems to think we have this wonderful coverage.
If they only knew......We do not.
The premiums every month for the very basic coverage costs me almost $600 a month....so that eats a big chunk of my paycheck.
Then the deduct pp is so high it's ridiculous! Then whenever you do meet the deduct they certainly don't want to pay for it afterwards.
The presc coverage is awful too. Then there are some meds that me and my family take that they won't even cover.
It's a struggle.
We don't have dental coverage...just pay out of pocket. My husband won't go to the dentist. Vision is not covered either.
I really even wonder why I pay the premiums if they don't cover anything? I guess it's only good if you have something major like a car wreck or something.
Then I think if you get cancer that's not even covered;you have to pay a premium on that every month as well, but we don't have that.
So many people have misconceptions about the health insurance if u work for the state.
If the Governor really wants to help with insurance problems he could start with his very own state employees.
I have read where 80%of the state employees make under $30k. There are a lot of state jobs that only pay $8/hr that I don't know how they can pay the health ins, my guess is they do without!
When I was between jobs - this was the insurance I used. It was cheaper than cobra. www.assuranthealth.com
Patricia,
That's a lot of money. Health care is such a big expense. What I hate is when the doctor prescribes a medicine and the insurance company tell you they won't cover that one but they'll give you a different one.
Leilani, trust me I know! We have 3 medications that is not covered by insurance.
For the most part my family is fairly "healthy". Granted, we have a few things here and there, but nothing major.
Although, next wk I will be taking my daughter to an asthma and allergy Dr to see if we can get to the root of her coughing..esp at night.
I hate to see how much all of that is going to be and what meds she will be on now!
