What will be remembered
When you look back at an era, there are things that make those who didn't live then wonder what people were thinking. There are things about that era that was everywhere, then disappeared. What am I talking about? Think about the 1970s. You picture leisure suits, polyester, bell bottoms, disco, Bicentennial hoopla everywhere, smiley faces on everything. In the 1980s, you had Izod shirts, teen movies, Coca-Cola fashion, torn sweatshirts for females and video games at arcades.
What will stand out from now?
My initial thoughts: an obsession with a tractor company, lots of things in pink and brown, ads that repeat 800 numbers over and over and book titles MUST have a colon in them (examples - Tacos: How To Make Easy Mexican Food. Building Your Blog: Getting Heard in Today's Society.).
What else will people look back on 20 years from now and remember about this era? When VH1 does a special on this 10-year period, what will they say? When your kids dress up for "2000s Day" at school, what will they bring and what will they wear?

For '2000s Day' they will dress like slobs, have an IPOD in their ear, a cell phone in their hand and a laptop with wifi in their backpack, and a Nintendo or PSP in the pocket of their baggy cargo shorts. They will be wired - and not the way we were at that age. Well, not exactly.
they will all bring their Guitar Hero Gibson :o)
OK, so insert some Twilight Zone music here!
Hubby and I were watching the "I Love the '70's" marathon yesterday and I was just wondering the same thing!
Great minds think alike.....Or watch the same crap on television! =)
i'm going with EMO...those poor, poor depressed valley kids. they should be so lucky to get down. they wouldn't know a hard day if it slapped them on their eyeliner.
Yes for 2000 day they will bring back Prince so they can party like it was 1999....just a little VH1
Will they even talk in the VH1 special? It will be all about text messaging, iPods, blogging, Facebook, MySpace... all things that don't require face to face communication!
Cow is with Lisa and Deanna, thinks it's all about the personal electronic devices now....
(Cow quickly shuffling her iPod to play 'Topiary Rules Forever' on loop)
Moo!
ha...maybe they'll call it
2000:return of the 80s
Personally, I am ready for the 40s to come back - tailored suits and spiky heels for women, suits and hats for men, gloves, hats - the whole 9 yards. Okay, not everyday, but at least on Sundays at church. There is a time and a place for casual, and it's not 24/7.
Capri pants.
[shudder]
Alice - LOL!
Lisa Hadden, I love the 40's look!
You know I was thinking about that same thing...I remember in highschool they had 80's day..and everyone dressed like they were in the 80's..hmm that is an interesting thought..
